Celebs Who Shamed Taylor Swift

At just 16 years old, Taylor Swift released her first album, titled Taylor Swift, and seemingly took the world by storm. Worldwide, everybody was obsessed with the young girl’s country charm, curly hair, and bright blue eyes. She quickly captured the hearts of the entire globe and became America’s unofficial sweetheart.

Since her debut in 2006, things have changed quite a bit. Swift has become infamous for having dated an impressive amount of men, forming an army of women that are always by her side, and not really knowing what the definition of feminism is.

Outside of those things, Swift seems to have fallen in with the ranks of many – famous or not. Nowadays, it’s hard to pick a celebrity who doesn’t have history with Swift. And with history comes drama. Here are 15 celebrities who have called Taylor Swift out. It’s lonely at the top.

Miley Cyrus

In reality, Swift and Cyrus don’t have any full-blown drama. What it boils down to though, is a comment that Cyrus made in August of 2015. During an interview with The New York Times, the topic of Swift’s “squad” came up, to which Cyrus responded, “I’m not trying to be in the squad. None of my friends are famous and not because of any other reason than I just like real people who are living real lives, because I’m inspired by them.” For those who don’t know about the “squad” – it’s basically a giant group of Swift’s friends that are made up of nothing but famous globetrotters. Karlie KlossCara DelevigneSelena Gomez and Blake Lively, are just a few of the household names that she’s taken underneath her wing. Swift and Cyrus have never really been close, but back during the Hannah Montana movie days, Swift did sing “Crazier” for the film’s soundtrack.

Lady Gaga

In 2013, Lady Gaga almost jumped on the bandwagon of Taylor Swift haters. In 2014 during an interview with Howard Stern, Gaga admitted that she used to think that Swift was “full of sh*t.” During an award show in 2013, Gaga and Swift were seated next to each other. During the show, Swift kept telling Gaga about how much she loved her most recent album Artpop, and how “Applause” was her favorite song at the time. Gaga thought it was all a facade and automatically assumed that the pop queen was just sucking up to her. Some time later, though, Gaga’s stylist was working with Swift and it turns out that Swift was actually blasting Artpop during a shoot, so Gaga’s stylist gave her a call to tell her what was going on. Gaga dropped her “full of sh*t” prejudice on Swift and decided that she liked her after that.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato has been in and out of the Hollywood spotlight for a plethora of reasons. One day she’s posing for an impromptu nude photoshoot, the next day, she’s in the news for health problems. Regardless of what it is, Lovato is always within the cusp of the media. However, her most notable attention grab as of recently was for calling out none other than Swift during singer Kesha‘s legal battle with Hollywood producer Dr. Luke. In February of 2016, the New York Supreme Court ruled that Kesha must stay under contract with the producer despite the allegations of r*pe and abuse against him filed by Kesha. Many celebrities, male and female, came out and spoke their mind and protest against the ruling – however, Swift, who is a self-proclaimed feminist, didn’t have anything to say. As a result, Lovato decided to take to Twitter to send a jab Swift’s way – Lovato Tweeted “I’m also ready for self-proclaimed feminists to start speaking out or taking actions for women’s rights.” Shortly after this, Swift made a very generous donation to help out with Kesha’s legal fees; however, Lovato was still not impressed. She took to Twitter yet again, saying, “Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed.” Lovato later Tweeted (and then deleted these Tweets) saying that she wasn’t trying to throw any shade at Swift. However, we all know that’s definitely what she was trying to do. After the recent blowout between Kim Kardashian and Swift, Lovato liked one of Kardashian’s Tweet, which was obviously her way of taking sides and showing that she’s still not a fan of Swift.

 Lorde

Nowadays, we know that Lorde is a part of Swift’s infamous “squad.” However, it hasn’t always been that way. Back in 2013, Lorde called Swift out for being “too perfect.” During an interview with New Zealand’sMetro magazine, Lorde is quoted as saying, “Taylor Swift is so flawless, and so unattainable, and I don’t think it’s breeding anything good in young girls. ‘I’m never going to be like Taylor Swift, why can’t I be as pretty as Lorde?’ That’s f**king bullsh*t.” Now, if you think about it – Swift can’t really change the way that she looks. As first world problem as it sounds, Swift can’t change how beautiful she is, so it’s silly that Lorde really had anything to say about it. As soon as word got out that Lorde had made this comment, she took to her Tumblr to clarify what she meant. She told her fans that what she meant is that there’s already so much pressure from the media on young girls to be a perfect vision of beauty, and that many celebrities weren’t helping with that challenge. When Lorde’s “Royals” hit #1 on the charts, Swift sent the new sensation flowers to congratulate her. Later on when they met, Lorde owned up to the comments she made about her new friend – Swift didn’t care, saying that, “She was like, ‘It’s fine. If all you’ve done is call someone perfect, it’s not that bad,'” Lorde said in an interview with the Rolling Stone.

Tina Fey & Amy Poehler

It’s nearly impossible for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to be without each other at Awards shows. They always host together, or sit together, and that’s the way things have always been. Well, they were also in it together during the 2013 Golden Globes when they called out Taylor Swift in front of all of Hollywood’s finest. Swift is pretty infamous for her reckless dating life, and Fey and Poehler used that as a way to make a joke about the singer. At the time, Swift was dating one of the One Direction heartthrobs, Harry Styles, but Fey and Poehler took a jab at Swift and said, “You know what, Taylor Swift? You stay away from Michael J. Fox‘s son,” which Swift didn’t find very funny. During her 2013 interview with Vanity Fair, Swift spoke with the magazine about how she felt about the jab. Clearly it wasn’t received well, because her comment was, “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” Fey and Poehler had different reactions when they learned about how Swift felt. Fey defended the joke, saying it was nothing more than a joke, and Poehler felt bad that Swift was hurt by the joke. However, during the 2014 Golden Globes, Fey decided to call out Swift all over again, by saying, “I just want to say congratulations again to my friend, Amy Poehler! I love you, and there’s a special place in hell for you.”

Zayn Malik

In June of 2015, Taylor Swift penned an open letter to Apple Music, basically demanding that she would receive payment if she was going to stream her music through the service. The tech giant ended up bowing down, and gave Swift and every other artist on the service what they wanted. This, however, didn’t sit well with many people in Hollywood – one of those people was one of the ex members of One Direction, Zayn Malik. In August of 2015, Malik re-Tweeted a meme that showed the difference between Cyrus and Swift’s stance on streaming their music for free. Swift is portrayed as a money hungry, selfish person while Cyrus is shown as generous and sensible. After this, Calvin Harris, who was Swift’s boyfriend at the time, came to Swift’s rescue and tried to call out Malik directly. However, after a short series of Tweets, the men sorted out their issues and called it good. Malik was supported in his stance against Swift’s complaint about streaming music for free from fans across the world.

Nicki Minaj

One of the more notable Swift drama episodes is the one that happened between her and rap queen Nicki Minaj. In June of 2015, Minaj found out that she wasn’t nominated at all for MTV’s Video of the Year Award during the MTV Music Video Awards. A very angry Minja let out a series of Tweets explaining how hard it is to be in an industry that doesn’t celebrate non-white, non-extra small size wearing females. One of her Tweets reads, “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” which Swift then automatically assumed was about her and her music video for “Bad Blood.” So, Swift decided to Tweet directly at Minaj, saying, “I’ve done nothing but love and support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot…” This did nothing but confuse Minaj, because it wasn’t intended to be about Swift at all, but about racism in Hollywood instead. Minaj replied to Swift, saying she clearly wasn’t reading the rest of her Tweets, and that it wasn’t about her – and that she should also be speaking out about the inequality in their industry. After countless memes and criticism by the entire world, Minaj and Swift share a phone call, and Swift later Tweets that she misunderstood, misspoke, and ended up apologizing. Currently, the pair are not at war with each other, but the world will never forget that day on Twitter.

If you’ve heard Swift’s song “Bad Blood,” then it’s important to know that the song is about Katy Perry, one of Swift’s extreme long-time rivals. The story of Perry and Swift is a long one, and to this day, they are not fans of each other at all. It’s rumored and assumed that part of Perry and Swift’s drama comes from the fact that they both dated the same man. In 2010, Swift dated John Mayer for a period of time which resulted in the creation of the song “Dear John,” and Perry dated him in 2012. Swift and Perry have never commented on the other dating Mayer, and it’s said by Swift herself that what caused the initial hatred was because of business and tour dancers. During Swift’s Red tour, she had three of her dancers leave her tour early because they were hired by Perry to dance for her  Prismatic tour. In her 2014 interview withRolling Stone, Swift told the story of her and Perry from her account. “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational—you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.” Swift also claims that before this, she was never sure if her and Perry were friends because of the way Perry spoke to her – Swift never knew if Perry was genuine with her. Since then, Swift has released “Bad Blood,” which is all about Perry, and Perry has taken as many chances as she can to comment on any drama that happens with Swift, taking the side of whoever she is pitted against

Rihanna

The relationship between Rihanna and Swift is a weird one. Rihanna is reportedly Perry’s best friend – and like most girl friendships, when your best friend hates somebody, normally you do too. So it’s not crazy to assume that Rihanna and Swift wouldn’t be the best of friends at all. Nothing big has happened between them, but in September of 2015, Rihanna was asked if she would ever join the star studded lineup of singers that Swift brought on her tour. Rihanna told NME magazine that she wouldn’t, her exact words being, “I just don’t think that makes sense. I don’t think our brands are the same; I don’t think they match. I don’t think our audiences are the same. In my mind, Swift’s a role model, I’m completely not.” So, Rihanna hasn’t exactly publicly said anything nasty about the pop star. And during 2016’s Coachella, Swift and Rihanna were seen hugging, so it can’t be that bad between them.

 Kanye West

The drama that has lasted years between Kanye West and Swift is still not over to this day. It all started in 2009 at the VMAs when she won an award for her music video for “You Belong With Me.” At the time, Swift was still just a budding star, someone you couldn’t ever imagine hurting. Well, West did just that. While the new star was accepting her award, West stormed the stage to protest her win. “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, Imma let you finish, but BeyoncĂ© had one of the best music videos of all time, one of the best music videos of all time,” is a quote that will go down in history. West was sticking up for legendBeyonce, who was also nominated for the same award and was forecasted by many to win. Their relationship was touch and go for quite some time, and West said he’d like to apologize to her in person. As time passed, Swift joked about the incident during a stint on SNL – so it seemed she moved past it. At the 2010 VMAs, Swift performed her song “Innocent,” which was about West and the situation that happened between them. At the 2015 Grammys, the pair shocked the entire world by taking photos together, hugging and shaking hands. They explained that they were friends, and there was even rumors about them collaborating together for a future song. West even sent Swift flowers at one point, which thickened the story of their friendship even more. That’s where it all ended, though. In West’s song “Famous”, he presents a degrading line about Swift which she claims she never approved. West claims that this is a lie and further ruins their relationship by explaining that she messed up her chance to be cool. In the music video for “Famous” Swift is represented by a naked wax figure of herself, which obviously she isn’t cool with. So, you can say that the two still aren’t friends.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian reached the ultimate level of petty with the planning that went into her takedown of Swift. Since the drama between Swift and Kardashian, Swift has seemed to drop off the world’s radar for the most part – it almost seems as if Kardashian has finally given Swift the payback the world thinks she deserves, along with the rest of the celebs who don’t like her. Kardashian hinted that she would be coming for somebody’s life with one Tweet that read, “Wait it’s legit National Snake Day?!?!?! They have holidays for everyone, I mean everything these days!” followed by tons of snake emojis. After she Tweeted that, she directed her massive fanbase to make sure they were following her on Snapchat because they were going to want to see what was coming next. Kardashian then uploaded several videos that show West speaking to Swift on the phone over speakerphone, so it’s very easy to hear – the phone call proved that Swift did approve the degrading lyrics about her in West’s song “Famous.” After that, the entire world seemed to turn on Swift now that they had proof that her ‘innocent girl’ persona wasn’t what it seemed to be. In the June 2016 issue of GQ, Kardashian said during her interview, “She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t. I swear, my husband gets so much shit for things when he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved…” The entire incident caught Swift off guard, and she responded by posting a image of note that she wrote on her phone explaining her side as the victim.

Kendal Jenner

Kendal Jenner almost had the chance of a lifetime: to be a long time member of Swift’s squad – but that sure didn’t last. During her 1989 tour, Swift even had Jenner up on stage with her for one of her shows; so clearly at that time, they were still friends. Though not too much later, Jenner started dating Harry Styles, who is one of Swift’s exes. Swift’s 1989 album is almost all about Styles, so obviously this wasn’t going to fly with her. After they got together, Jenner and Swift pretty much cut ties, as they were never seen together again, and Jenner was never with the “squad” again. During the Kardashian/Swift blowout, Jenner showed her sister support by re-Tweeting (and then deleting) the Tweet that told fans to go look at Kardashian’s Snapchat along with liking some of the Tweets that were about Swift. So, it’s safe to say that Jenner won’t be invited to the “squad” anytime soon.

Calvin Harris

For those that stay up-to-date with Swift’s ever-changing love life, the relationship between her and DJCalvin Harris was one for the books because it actually lasted longer than a couple of months. The pair were actually together for 15 months, making it look very promising for Swift. When the pair parted, it seemed very cordial at first. That was until, of course, Swift was photographed making out with actorTom Hiddleston about a week after the breakup, prompting rumors that the pop star either left Harris for him or had something going with him before her breakup from the DJ. After that happened, Harris went and deleted his kind breakup message to his fans, every single Instagram photo of them together, and stopped following her on social media. He also released a song titled “Ole” with John Newman, which is reportedly about Swift. Shortly after, Harris decides to expose Swift for helping writing his current hit “This Is What You Came For” since she reportedly didn’t want people to know that she was in on it. Harris doesn’t stop there, though. He goes off on a Twitter rant about Swift, ending it with, “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. Won’t allow it.” So not only does he confirm Swift’s intentions with Perry, but he blasted her in front of the entire Twitterverse as well.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Most people know Jake Gyllenhaal for his mediocre movies, but he also dated Swift back in 2010 when she was on a spree of dating older men. Reportedly, Swift was absolutely enamored with Gyllenhaal. He’d fly her to movie premiers, take her out on dates, and more, but he broke up with her not even six months into them dating because he just wasn’t feeling it anymore. Swift goes on to write, “The Moment I Knew” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” about the actor. As far as drama goes, it was pretty tame between the two of them.

Harry Styles

Yet another man who has left Swift scorned is One Direction’s Harry Styles. Swift and Styles dated in 2012, after the pair met at the Kid’s Choice Awards. Styles told Cosmopolitan UK before they started dating that there was a “girl” he was interested in, but she wasn’t his type. Seeing how he was saying that even before they started dating was probably an indication that things weren’t going to last. After they dated for a short time in 2012, Swift Tweeted in January of 2013 telling fans she was back in the studio, which resulted in 1989, much of which is about Styles. Since then, Styles and Swift have thrown shade at each other here and there, but nothing that actually gets the other to confirm who they might be talking about. It’s safe to say the pair won’t ever make amends.
