Emily Morgan Hotel
Texas is a place sprawling with history. It has some of the most intense ghost stories, as well as a hotel known to a lot of locals as the Emily Morgan Hotel. This historic and reputable building has been around since the 1920’s. You will find it in San Antonio, not far from where the Alamo resides. It offers guests a grand taste of exquisite service and houses some of the most beautiful interior designs. But behinds its doors, there is more than just the beautiful interior. Ghostly stories are abound and spirits reside within. Apparitions, along with unexplained noises and feeling like you’re being touched are just a few of the creepy occurrences you will experience here. It isn’t quite clear why this place is haunted, however, there are many who believe the reason can be found in one simple fact. At one point in time, The Emily Morgan Hotel was much needed as a medical facility. This meant that for a time in history, the hotel existed as a hospital, morgue and psychiatric ward, all in one.
Hotel Sorrento
This beautiful upscale hotel, located in the lands of Seattle, has been the talk of a very popular ghost story for quite some time. Supposedly, Hotel Sorrento is haunted by the ghost of Alice B. Toklas. To many, she is considered the inventor of the famous “pot brownies.” She has often been seen throughout the hallways, and seems to love spending her time right around room 408. In what is known as the Dunbar Room, guests have often reported seeing their drinks move on their own. However, unlike most places, the hotel has a special drink on the menu, placed there to honor the wandering spirit. The Toklas cocktail consists of well known, but strange ingredients: lucid absinthe, honey, chamomile, elderflower and lemon juice. So, not only could you get a ghostly experience during your stay, but you can also honor the spirit’s memory by taking a sip of a drink that now exists as a reminder of a creepy story in a beautiful hotel.
Omni Parker House
If old political and literary history is your thing, then the Omni Parker House in Boston is definitely the place to stay. The hotel, believe it or not, is actually quite affordable, considering the rates at many other upscale hotels in Boston. It is also home to quite a few spirits and ghost stories. The hotel first made an appearance to the public in 1855 and the founder, Harvey Parker would oversee all of the hotel’s functions until 1884 when he sadly passed away. Nowadays, if you decide to stay within its walls, it’s good to know a little about the place and its haunted history. Many guests have said that they can hear voices in the rooms and have even been asked by Harvey Parker himself how their stay was. One of the most popular rooms, however, is room 303, where a business man died. Those who have stayed in the room have reported hearing laughter and catching the faint scent of whiskey on the air.
Le Pavillon Hotel
In New Orleans, there is a hotel known as the Le Pavillon. This beautiful structure was built in 1907. Nowadays, its interior is a reminder of the glitz of the past, allowing guests to experience something a little different in New Orleans. But that isn’t the only thing that attracts so many to this hotel. It is said that at least five ghosts haunt the property, the most popular being Adda. Adda was a very sad teenager who was alive during the mid-1800s. She met her tragic end after a runaway carriage came hurdling towards her. In recent years, people have reported bumping into a young girl who claims to be lost, only to turn around moments later to find she had vanished. Possibly the funniest sighting, however, is that of the ghostly hippie. A man dressed in psychedelic clothing can sometimes be seen in a certain part of the hotel.
Cassadaga Hotel
If you’re looking for a spiritualist camp that has all the fixings required for a wonderful ghostly experience, then Cassadaga camp is the place to be. Located in Cassadaga, Florida, this beautiful community is one of mystery. But the camp isn’t the only appealing thing about Cassadaga. While it’s true that this is a very supernatural area, one of its most known attributes is the Cassadaga Hotel.
The hotel offers many different experiences, including seeing, hearing and feeling ghosts. But what makes this hotel stand out from the rest is that the hotel welcomes these spirits, considering them friendly ghosts. The staff even holds walks around the property, allowing guests to experience the ghostly activity for themselves. The entire camp was established in 1894 and the area is very well known when it comes to spiritualists and psychic mediums. Many people believe it is a place of great and powerful energy. Cameras are welcome as well, as the staff actually prefers it. This way, people can get a look at the ghosts themselves and become believers.
Hotel Provincial
At the heart of bustling New Orleans, you will find a beautiful set of structures known as the Hotel Provincial. All together, the hotel consists of five buildings, French Quarter courtyards scatter the property, giving way to glimpses of the past. But what makes this hotel so unique is that each building holds its own history. At one point in time, the Provincial was used as a Confederate hospital for the wounded. In many areas of the hotel, many soldiers died, succumbing to their injuries. Throughout the years, people have reported seeing a great number of ghostly soldiers, as well as doctors, blood stains that appear then disappear upon inspection, and many other different sounds and creepy situations. Many people believe that because of the soldier’s deaths, this place remains one of the highest places for spooky activity. This actually makes a lot of sense, considering the theory that when someone dies a violent or terrible death, their spirit or energy lingers in that spot or general area.
The Myrtles Plantation
When you think of haunted hotels, the first that probably comes to many people’s minds is the Myrtles Plantation. Its story is one that has been around for awhile and sends a familiar chill down the backs of those who have heard it.
Currently, the plantation functions as a bed and breakfast and is said to be haunted by at least twelve ghosts. It is also rumored that the plantation was built upon a Tunica Indian burial ground, leaving many to believe this is the reason for most of the hauntings. Often, it is mentioned that at least ten murders have occurred within, however, historically, there has only been one death recorded in the now bed and breakfast. His name was William Drew Winter and he was known for his work as an attorney. Mr. Winter stayed at the plantation from 1865 to 1871 until one fateful day when a stranger shot him. He staggered into the building, trying his very best to climb the stairs. Unfortunately, on the 17th step, Mr. Winters breathed his last breath. Nowadays, if you ask the staff, they will tell you that every now and then, footsteps can be heard coming from the stairs William Drew Winter died on. Other ghostly experiences include, seeing, hearing and feeling spirits, and a very large amount of spirit activity in photos and videos.
Crescent Hotel
What is popularly considered America’s most haunted hotel, Crescent Hotel has certainly made a name for itself. Located in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, the hotel was once known in 1886 by the name of Crescent Hotel and Spa. Its ghost stories have been formed by those who decided to check into Crescent Hotel, but never ever check out. The famous spirits of this hotel are still lingering, waiting to interact with those that stay at the hotel. A long list of trapped spirits include Norman Baker, a ghostly man who can be seen moving about in a lavender shirt and white suit, a ghostly cat along with quite a few others. However, when the famous show Ghost Hunters, which airs on the Sci-Fi channel decided to take a visit to the hotel, they got more than they bargained for, with great capture on film as well as disturbing and creepy results on their thermal cameras. To say the least, if you are looking for highly active ghost activity with a place that inspires and promotes that activity, then Crescent Hotel is the place to be.
Queen Mary
Many people know the Queen Mary Hotel in Long Beach, California, simply as a hotel full of ghosts and strange energy. But at one time, this permanently docked ship, which has been turned into a hotel over the years, actually housed a rather morbid history, giving reason to the hauntings around the property.
When the Queen Mary first made its way into the water, it served America as an ocean liner in the year 1936. Whenever the war started, the vessel was turned into a troopship. The Queen Mary served its purpose over the years and eventually won a Blue Riband for crossing the North Atlantic so fast. But the years ticked by and the ship eventually went up for sale. In 1967, it was bought and finally arrived in California, December of that same year. It opened up as a hotel for the first time in 1972 with 150 rooms available to guests. The hotel continued to run until 1992 when the hotel was shut down. However in 1993, it re-opened and continues to function as a docked ship-hotel to this day.
What many people believe makes the hotel so haunted is the result of the accident the ship experienced during the second World War, when the Queen Mary struck its escort ship. 300 men drowned as a result and some people say that the screams and banging of the men can be heard in parts of the hotel. Also, it is rumored that one of the cooks in the kitchen was killed because his food wasn’t good enough. His body was found stuffed away in the oven and to this day, he haunts the kitchen. Some people who have worked in the kitchen have reported hearing screaming coming from the oven.

This one is call The Equinox Hotel and it is located in Manchester, Vermont. Mentioned as one of Vermont’s most haunted hotels, this large structure houses some very creepy ghost stories, along with the telling of a very popular American figure.
In 1769, The Equinox was fitted to completion and opened its doors to the public of Manchester and beyond. Since then, ghosts have been said to be responsible for disturbing the guests of this well defined establishment and many people are certainly in agreement about it. There are many stories from the guests and staff, but the most popular circulates around Abraham Lincoln and his wife. In the year 1865, Mary Todd Lincoln and her children visited The Equinox during the summer to escape the dreaded heat of Washington D.C. While staying at the hotel, Mary would receive the terrible news that her husband had been assassinated. Long after Mary’s death, two housekeepers were cleaning rooms on the third floor, attending to their tasks, when suddenly, Mary and one of her children appeared before them, disappearing almost as quickly as they came. It’s one of the most popular ghost stories of the Equinox but certainly not the only one.
Logan Inn
The Logan Inn is located in New Hope, Pennsylvania, and it is considered legendary in the state. Many ghost hunters and thrill seekers have come here to experience the ghostly happenings of the inn and quite a few have even left in a panic in the middle of the night.
So far, it’s been reported that at least six ghosts inhabit this inn, however, many people will gladly admit that they have seen more spirits and had many different experiences happen to them during their stay. Among the areas that are haunted, the most popular seems to be room 6. It is often called Emily’s room, due to the belief that all of the occurrences in the room are from a previous owner’s mother, her name being Emily. Guests have often reported hearing crying, voices and strange sounds, but the spooky events don’t stop there. Women have often reported seeing a man standing behind them in the bathroom mirror, only to turn around and see no one there. Others have experienced a pressure on their chest as they slept. After they wake up, a strange mist can be seen moving about in the room. Other ghosts like children have even been seen in the room.
La Fonda
Since 1922, the La Fonda has been offering a place of rest to those who need it. Located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, it is a very quaint place which is still in business, and blossoming with people. But behind the beauty of the property, deep in its history lies stories and spooky tales that have left their marks on the hotel.
Many people have reported seeing one of the judges who once inhabited the area, walking the halls. Others have reported ghosts walking through various hallways, including the restaurant known as the La Terraza. But the most popular ghost experience seems to be the ghost associated with a salesman who was occupying the hotel for a time. Distraught that his company had lost so much money, he threw himself down the well which was on the property at the time and died. Today if you visit the La Plazuela, which is the hotel’s dining room situated directly over the well, you might catch of glimpse of the salesman as he walks towards the spot of the well, only to fall right through the floor.
Hotel Chelsea
The Hotel Chelsea is a very tall and majestic building, with an interior that will knock your socks off with its style. Between 1883 and 1884, the building was constructed and gave the public access to stay in the rooms. And just like other haunted hotels, the Hotel Chelsea has quite a few ghost stories, some being more morbid than others.
One of the most popular ghosts to inhabit the hotel is believed to be a man by the name of Dylan Thomas. Sadly he fell ill with a terrible case of pneumonia and eventually died due to the sickness in 1953. It is believed that his ghost still roams the halls of this large hotel and even interacts with guests from time to time. Another famous ghost is Sid Vicious. His circumstances were a little more melancholy considering the events that took place. In 1978 Sid and his girlfriend were staying at the hotel when she was stabbed to death. Many people believe because of this he is still in the hotel and can’t move on.
The Stanley Hotel
When we think Stephen King, a lot of books and movies come to mind, one of the most popular being The Shining. Most King fans know where the movie takes place, however, there are still the few out there in the world that are unaware.
The Stanley Hotel is located in Colorado and was used as a setting for the movie The Shining. The hotel was built in 1909 and the owners, Freelan and Flora Stanley, made sure that the hotel would be an amazing site amidst the mountains. Over time, the hotel itself became somewhat of a regular place, as it had already built up its fair share of ghost stories and mishaps, but after The Shining was filmed, the hotel became another place for many people to visit and it gave them great reason to keep running. Many people claim you can still hear the owners around the hotel attending to their duties. The hotel is supposedly filled with many spirits.
Hotel Roosevelt
The Hotel Roosevelt is one of the most grand places you will ever visit in Hollywood, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this hotel has had its fair share of mishaps and ghostly encounters, as a lot of famous people as well as many average people have visited the hotel.
In fact, the famous Marilyn Monroe once took up residence in the hotel for at least two years while she was making a name for herself while trying to be a model. Many have reported feeling very cold in certain areas, making it an eerie place to stay at times. Also, guests have captured great images of ghosts and orbs on film. But perhaps the most creepy event happens when the front desk receives calls to the front desk and there is no one there. This hotel certainly holds the right charm when you are visiting Hollywood, but you’re planning on staying, be sure to ask about which rooms may be haunted and which ones you will be able to get a good night’s sleep in.
